HISTORY! Kielce are at the TOP of Europe!

Dreams came true! Vive Tauron Kielce are at the TOP of European handball! The Polish champions achieved the only trophy which missed in trophy room of one of the greatest handball team in the last six-seven years. It was easier than it was expected for Veszprem, but only in the first 45 minutes (28:19), when began one of the biggest drama in modern handball which ended in extra-time. Kielce made amazing turnover with 9:0 series which led to extra-time (29:29 – 35:35) and afterwards penalty roulet – 39:38…

This will be a match for the historical books…

Hungarian team began the match like an older brother outplaying with Palmarsson and Ilic 5-1 defense of the yellow team. Two former EHF CL winners with THW Kiel together with Laszlo Nagy were fully concentrated in „cheating“ agressive defensive line of the Polish roster for 4:1 lead after seven minutes of the match.

The biggest power of Kielce’s offensive actions, Michal Jurecki wasn’t in mood, and that was the biggest problem for Talant Dujshebaev. Lijewski had some solutions in attack, but that wasn’t enough for turnover.

Ugalde netted for 8:4 in 14th minute, but Kielce had an answer on that side with Reichmann, who scored two goals to keep his team above the water. Mate Lekai gave a great impact to efficiency of Veszprem in the second part of the first half. Longer bench of Hungarian team gave them a chance to came from 13:12 until 17:13 in the last few minutes of the first half.

After only nine minutes of the second half, Talant Dujshebaev was forced to call time-out to try to save something of his team self-confidence and honour (24:17). Kielce’s attack collapsed, Jurecki together with Lijewski was totally out of the game which gave a chance to Veszprem to score many easy goals.

Nothing has changed even after time-out. Dujshebaev payed a high price of playing with only four players in back-line. On the other side, Sabate has prepared a lot of options, gave a rest to Ilic and Palmarsson, who came back even stronger in the last part of the match. In 46th minute, outstanding Nilsson netted for 28:19.

In the moment when everything seems done, but ten minutes afterwards, Kielce came to 28:28 (55.) with an goal from 7-meters by Karol Bielecki. Veszprem totally lost head in attack, while Slawomir Szmal made a series of excelent series to put his team on the edge of victory!

But, the last four minutes showed TOP class of Mirko Alilovic, Veszprem’s goalie, who saved two 7-meter shots by Bielecki and Strlek, providing his team a chance to win after 0:9 series which totally ruined atmosphere in the red team. Ilić netted for 29:28 and Veszprem had also attack to score for a win, but at the end Kielce had 15 seconds to find the net for extra-time and they did it! Polish hero was Krzystof Lijewski, who scored for 29:29 three seconds before the buzzer…

Nine minutes of extra-time weren’t enough that some of the teams finish the job.  Aguinagalde netted for 35:34 75 seconds before the buzzer. Veszprem had troubles to organize last attack, but in the last 15 seconds after exclusion of one Kielce’s players, 6 on 5, Nagy found Ugalde who scored for the final result – 35:35 which led to penalty-shot-out!

Slawomir Szmal saved shot by Mirsad Terzic and give the chance to Julen Aguinagalde to become a part of handball and Polish sports history…
