6 things to know before IHF Super Globe 2016

The 10th IHF Super Globe starts on Monday in Doha. Get prepared for the first major handball event in season 16/17…

KARABATIC TO CONTINUE WITH EURO TROPHIES SEASONS SINCE 2005?

Do you know that probably the best handball player of XXI Century, Nikola Karabatić, didn’t miss to win at least one trophy at international stage since 2005! Amazing fact, but 32-years old French superstar stayed without joy of winning some major trophy with his teams – THW Kiel and FC Barcelona or France, in season 2004/2005, his last in Montpellier, where he showed big potential by winning EHF Champions League in 2003. The series of the VELUX EHF Champions League trophies with Kiel and Barcelona, and a lot of gold medals with France since Men’s EHF EURO 2006, will be challenged in year 2016, when 2014&2015 HP World Handball Player didn’t won anything on international level with PSG Handball and France, but Super Globe is coming…

WAITING FOR THE THIRD NON-EUROPEAN FINAL…

Statistics doesn’t hide anything. This will be the tenth IHF Super Globe, nine is won by European teams. The only non-European team who did it is Qatari Al Sadd, who beat SC Magdeburg 35:32 in 2002 at the most important match of group stage (there were no knock-out system). All Sadd, official host of 2016 event, also played at two finals in 2010 and 2014. Are there any chance to see some of Qatari teams (Lekhwya or Al Sadd) or Brazilian Taubate, ahead of TOP European rosters….

SYDNEY UNIVERSITY TO SURPRISE ONCE AGAIN?

The Australian representatives, Sydney University made a big surprise last year with an quarter-final win over Al Sadd 21:20. That was the first ever victory for Australian handball team, who showed development in the clashes with Barcelona and Veszprem after it. Are they capable to repeat that against the same rival – Al Sadd, and what they learned since the last September in Doha?

SPANISH-GERMAN KINGDOM TO BE BROKEN?

Event at Duhail Sports Hall will be the tenth IHF Super Globe event, eighth in Doha. Six titles have been won by teams from Spain, two went to Germany and one won Qatari team. Is it time to get new country – IHF Super Globe if we know how strong are PSG Handball and Vive Tauron Kielce?

DOHA – THE HOME OF SUPER GLOBE…

The capital city of Qatar will host the world’s club’s Championship for the seventh year  in a row, eighth time in total with an „old event“ in 2002. The only two places who hosted Super Globe instead of Qatari city was Austrian Vienna and Egyptian Cairo.

STANIC FOR AL SADD – ELAHMAR TO LEKHWYA

The Serbian goalie Darko Stanic will join Al-Sadd on short-term basis for the upcoming event. The 38-years old goalkeeper played at El Jaish Sports Club in the last season. Legendary Ex-Jaish right back, Egyptian NT captain Ahmed El Ahmar will help other Qatari team Lekhwya.
