Bjerringbro-Silkeborg must create another miracle in Szeged

After a two-goal defeat at home against MOL-Pick Szeged, Bjerringbro-Silkeborg need to come up with something special to proceed to the quarterfinals but goalkeeper Søren Rasmussen believe in the team.

In Bjerringbro-Silkeborg, they were living the dream when they in first eight final against MOL-Pick Szeged was in front by six goals during the first half. At the break, they led by five goals but a comeback from Szeged in the second half made changed the starting point for the second game completely.

– It is obvious that we must hold on to the ball. We cannot make technical faults and bad passes to our line players. Szeged is punishing us with their counter attacks.

– We can find optimism in the fact that we played super well in the first half where we controlled Szeged and made very few mistakes. If we make few mistakes, we have a chance in Szeged but of cause, it is a game where everything must turn out to our advantage, told Bjerringbro-Silkeborg goalkeeper Søren Rasmussen.

Bjerringbro-Silkeborg lost the first leg of the eight final by 26-24 and therefore, they must win the return game in Hungary with two or three goals or more to book their spot in the quarterfinals. And, it is possible according to Rasmussen.

– We believe that it is possible but everybody in the team know that it will be extremely difficult. Everything must go according to our book but we have something in our baggage from our previous away games in the VELUX EHF Champions League. We have done well away from home and that makes our faith in ourselves bigger.

The goalkeeper play a crucial role when Bjerringbro-Silkeborg earlier in the season defeated Kiel on away ground and it is a performance like that, the Danes need to do again. Along with the miracle in Kiel, Bjerringbro-Silkeborg was close to another sensation away against Flensburg-Handewitt and when they in November were in Hungary to play Veszprem, they only lost by one goal.

– It is important that we have done it before. We know what challenge we face. We have played in some of the toughest arenas, maybe the Szeged fans are a bit louder but we are ready for that, said Søren Rasmussen.

The 40 years old goalkeeper has experienced winning in Szeged in front of 3.000 loud fans. That was when he played for Flensburg-Handewitt but this Pick Szeged team is better than the one Rasmussen has beaten.

– Szeged is better than ever. I think they have a very good team. They have two top players on evry position, so if one plays bad, there is a talented substitute. They are physically strong and that will be a challenge for us too, told the goalkeeper.

The second leg of the eight final between MOL-Pick Szeged and Bjerringbro-Silkeborg throws off at 17.00 on Sunday. The game is live on DR1 and EHFTV.com.
