France (Round 26): Chambery stops Montpellier, PSG to Champions League!

The last round in the French Championship decided the last question that remained opened. The team that will go directly to the group stage of the Champions League is PSG Handball, after they won against Cesson-Rennes with 34:27 (17:11). On the other hand, Montpellier, the main contender, lost away at Chambery Savoie with 30:33 (15:15). Montpellier and Nantes are going to the EHF Cup, with Montpellier hoping to receive a Wild Card for possible Champions League entry.

I disagree when you say PSG “will go directly to the group stage of the CL”.

In january of this year, the EHF changed the rules for the number of allocations for the Champions League!
“There will be no automatic allocation of a second place to any federation except the top two (Germany and Spain) of the ranking list For the 2014/15 season ”
The french which ranked third, have only one automatic allocation (Dunkerque).

PSG (n°2), Montpellier (n°3) and Nantes (n°4) … and perhaps Chambéry if they win the French Cup this sunday (against PSG) will be able to ask a place in Champions League.

“The awarding will be decided by the Executive Committee in its meeting in June 2014 after the registration process has been concluded.”
