IHF Super Globe: Sydney beat Al Sadd – Barca and Berlin for the final!

The opening day of the IHF Super Globe in Doha showed once again that the difference between European TOP teams and non-European handball powerhouses isn’t so huge. The biggest surprise of the day was made by Sydney University who beat the only domestic team – last year finalists – Al Sadd 21:20 (9:10).

The rival of the Australian team in the semi-final will be MKB MVM Veszprem. Hungarians beat Brazilian Taubate 27:24 (12:12) in the match in which they lost more energy than it was expected. Brazilians were in lead after 47 minutes – 21:20, but Antonio Carlos Ortega boys found the rhytm in the last ten minutes of the match to secure the victory. Zeitz, Nilsson and Palmarsson scored five goals each same as Silva for the Brazilian team.

The reigning EHF CL winner, FC Barcelona, beat Egyptian Al Ahly 20:16 (12:8). Wael Jallouz was the TOP scorer with five goals for the winners, who are favorites in the battle for the final against Fuchse Berlin.

Foxes beat Tunisian best squad Africain 27:24 (14:12). Team from the German capital was led by outstanding Petar Nenadic who netted 10 goals, three less than three days ago in his last DKB Bundesliga match against Leipzig.

The schedule for the 2015 IHF Super Globe Semi-Finals and placement matches has been announced.
