Main Round opens: Denmark wants revenge against Spain

The first day of the decisive main round matches is scheduled for today. Denmark and Spain both transferred four points from the group phase, and they meet today in a game whose winner would definitely head for the semifinals. Spain humiliated Denmark in the final of the World Championship 2013 in Barcelona, and with Denmark being on the home soil now, they’ll be certainly looking for a revenge. Anders Eggert returns for Denmark, while Julen Aguinagalde is still in doubt, and is to have his first game yet at the tournament.

Weakened Hungary without Laszlo Nagy plays against weakened Macedonia without Naumce Mojsovski. While Macedonia with the last-second winner against Austria through Lazarov secured two points in the main round, Hungary has not had a great tournament so far, and the draw against Iceland is what put them through, but with only one point. Mate Lekai is the leader in the Hungarian team with 15 goals, while Macedonia’s best is of course – Kiril Lazarov – with 28 goals so far. Useful addition to the squad will be Nemanja Pribak, former Serbian playmaker, who decided to play for Macedonians.

Pointless Austria takes on Iceland in the last game of Group 1. Austria has showed some great play at this tournament, and same goes for Iceland, who will seek two points from game, as they’re the slight favorite in this one. Should Iceland win, they stand a good chance of trying to reach the top two spots in the group, which everyone expects to be filled by Spain and Denmark.

SCHEDULE:

Macedonia-Hungary 16.00
Austria-Iceland 18.15
Denmark-Spain 20.30
