Masters World Cup 2017 with homage to the first Olympic winners – Vlado Stenzel

The first Masters Handball World Cup 2017 in Omis (Croatia) which will be held between April 28 and May 1, 2017. For now, teams from seven countries applied for the biggest event for veterans in 2017, but still there is enough time to join.

Tournament in beautiful atmosphere of Adriatic Sea will have a special dimension of paying tribute to the people who gave a lot to our sport. In this case, the hall in Omis will be renamed during the tournament in “VLADO STENZEL court”, as a way of homage to the coach – the first Olympic winner from 1972 in Munchen.

Legendary 84-years old Stenzel lives in Germany and still is active. He was a real handball king of 70’s as Olympic winner with Yugoslavia and World’s champion with Germany in 1978. That’s why he got a nickname “magician”.

  • We don’t give enough respect to the people who were making our sport. Handball kids know nothing or almost nothing about a real handball legends in comparation with the new generations in some other sports, who are forcing their best players and coaches, writing books and recording films about them, sharing their quotes, etc. Vlado Stenzel is one of the first global handball stars. He won Olympic gold with Yugoslavia, the first ever in “small handball”, then took world’s crown with Germany, the first for the biggest handball country. He was definitely the handball icon of 70’s. Our idea that hall in Omis get his name during Masters Handball World Cup 2017, has symbolic meaning and the way to remind on his handball work, but also a kind of provocation to start thinking diferrently about our legacy – said Zika Bogdanovic, editor of Handball-Planet.com, one of the organizers of MHWC 2017.
