Olympic and World’s champion is out, Hergeirsson: It’s my responsiblity

Norwegian team suffered defeat against Serbia 28:25 in front of 16.000 spectators in “Kombank Arena” and lost the second title, after European, some other team will take a World gold from the current Olympic champion. Here are what Thorir Hergeirsson and his girls stated in the mix zone after the match…

Linn JorrumSulland, Norway player

‘Although I think that I had a good first half, of course I would have liked to play more. That is up to the one who decides’ -she said, referring to ThorirHergeirsson

Karoline DyhreBreivang, Norway player

When asked to comment on the low playing time of fellow player, Linn JorrumSulland: ‘I am tight-lipped about Hergeirsson’s decision to drop Sulland when it was about five minutes left . It is Thorir that governs the substitutions. I do not decide, and I cannot answer.

ThorirHergeirsson, Norway coach

‘I feel she (Sulland) was in a downward curve of performance at first, but could’ve come in earlier than the others. I have no immediate answer (on why Norway has failed). We could not resist them (Serbia) in their full throttle in any way. We chose to swap one player, but should have perhaps swapped two in last minutes. We knew that Serbia would have to run more, if opponents switch two players (on back positions) later in the game. I know now (afterwards) that we should have maybe tried to create more rhythm going forward into the game.

I’m not happy with it (the loss). We performed bellow our level the last twenty minutes of the match. It is my responsibility; I am the leader of the team. At the same time, I believe it is not wise to take any quick conclusions. We can think: ” We have done everything, we tried our best”. We did try (to change) a few things, but didn’t get the desired answer.

There is always an advantage for the home team, especially when they’re in good form like the Serbian team). They have momentum and ” flow ” to their game and it was hard to oppose them.

The only regret I have is that I should have made two substitutions (instead of one); to create more rhythm ahead and give the 2nd and 5th (central) players in defense a breather. I could’ve done that. And we could put Linn back in earlier. Although, I cannot perceive how is that essential for the game’s final outcome.’
