Rasmussen prepares for Palmarsson and Ilic

40 years old Søren Rasmussen is one of the key players in the Bjerringbro-Silkeborg squad. On Sunday, they face Veszprem in the VELUX EHF Champions League.

Søren Rasmussen has tried the most in his handball career. He has won the Danish Championship twice, he was silver medalist at the World Championships in 2011 and he succeeded winning the VELUX EHF Champions League with Flensburg-Handewitt in 2014. Although he is 40 years old, Søren Rasmussen is still a top class goalkeeper. He still wants to win and everyday he trains to improve his level.

– I think I am in good shape. I had a couple of bad games after a good start of the season. My body lacked energy and most importantly, I did not have enough saves. Now, I think I am improving and it is becoming easier to save the balls, said Søren Rasmussen.

– I would like to train more than I do but we have to be careful, when we play two games every week. It is important to take good care of the body.

The 40 years old goalkeeper uses long time to prepare for a match. He is preparing for the shooters in the opponent’s team. On Sunday, Bjerringbro-Silkeborg faces Veszprem in the VELUX EHF Champions League and there are many world-class players for Søren Rasmussen to prepare for. Two of the Veszprem players will have extra attention. That are Aron Palmarsson and Momir Ilic.

– Palmarsson did not play in our first game against Veszprem and he has the best shot. Maybe, he is the one player in the world with the best shot. He is back for Veszprem and he shoots very fast.

– At the same time, we need to do better against Momir Ilic. He was their top score in the first game with eight goals and therefore, we need an extra eye on him, told the Bjerringbro-Silkeborg keeper.

In the first game in Veszprem, Bjerringbro-Silkeborg was just one goal or one save away from making a huge upset. They lost by only one goal in the away game against Veszprem. That gives them hope for the game at home in JYSK Arena. Still, Søren Rasmussen thinks Bjerringbro-Silkeborg is on a very tough assignment.

– Almost everything needs to work for us. We must create the right situations in our attack and defensively, we want to put them under pressure, so that we receive the shots that we like. We need to have good goalkeeper performances and we want to do some goals on counter attacks. We succeeded on our counter attacks in Veszprem and that will be important in JYSK Arena too, he said.

Bjerringbro-Silkeborg is in seventh place in Group A in the VELUX EHF Champions League. They have four points and they are hunting Wisla Plock in sixth with five points. A chance to deliever an upset and grab some point is on Sunday against Veszprem. Throw off is at 16.50 and the game is live on DR1 Denmark and EHFTV.com.
