Rhein Neckar Lowen beat Barca – Vardar win in Montpellier

Tradition in SAP Arena continues! Rhein Neckar Lowen, once again, beat FC Barcelona 22:21 (10:9), but in the much different match in comparation with some previous battles of two great teams. Swiss playmaker in the domestic team, Andy Schmid scored two decisive goals in order to gain first points for his team in new format of the VELUX EHF Champions League.

Uwe Gensheimer netted 6, one more than Schmid, and the equal as the best Barca scorer Kiril Lazarov, who missed two 7-meter shots, saved by Darko Stanic.

RK Vardar closed the first week in EHF CL Group P by away win in Montpellier 30:25 (9:12). The Macedonian TOP team showed some weaknesses in the first 30 minutes, but than made furious turnover by scoring 11 goals in the first 13 minutes of the second half (20:15). However, domestic team found the way to get back into the match on 20:19, but in crucial moments, last five minutes, Arpad Sterbik was unbeatable, and Vardar’s Russian left back Dereven scored two important goals to break resistance of the rival (25:24 – 28:24).

Dibirov scored six for the winners from Skopje, while Gajic netted 7 for domestic team.
