South American Games: Argentina and Brazil in the battle for the gold!

The South American Games in Chile already have the two finalists and it’s a blockbuster between eternal rivals Argentina and Brazil.

On the first semifinal of the day, Argentina didn’t have much trouble to take a victory for 23-14 in a dull and pale game against Uruguay. In a match where both defences where the highlights, the scoreboard of the first half closed with a 10-3 lead for the conducted by Eduardo ‘Dady’ Gallardo. The focus was put on grabbing one of the three available spots for the Pan American Games of Toronto 2015 and the Argentinians obtained the qualification and also a pass to the final of the tournament.

On the other semifinal, Brazil faced the home team Chile (who counted with SC Magdeburg’s Marco Oneto) and had a more complicated game, especially because of the atmosphere that challenged them as the host was highly supported by the localcrowd. However, the conducted by Spanish coach Jordi Rivera overcame the loudness of the environment and stormed past the Chilean to get a victory for 33-22 and booked a place in Toronto as well as the right to play the final against Argentina and defend the title obtained in Medellin in 2010.

It’s good to remember that because these Games are not within the consideration of the IHF, none of the teams were able to count with all of their ‘European’ players. Some of the exceptions were the Argentinian goalkeeper Fernando García (Vernon, FRA), Brazil’s Arthur Patrianova (Naturhouse La Rioja, SPA), Guillherme Gama (BM Guadalajara, SPA).

The final will be played on Monday right after Chile and Uruguay fight for the bronze medal and for the last spot for Toronto 2015.
