This was Spanish night in Arena Varazdin! Spaniards smashed leaders of the Group at the start of Main Round – Macedonia 31:20 (15:6) in clash which was concluded after only 15-20 minutes of the first half. Defensive line of Jordi Ribera team together with Gonzalo Perez de Vargas (18 saves) between the posts was impressive from the first whistle.
Macedonians netted only three goals for the first 15 minutes, when Spain were on +4 (7:3), but the most impressive period of the game was 7:0 series which put World’s champions from 2013 on +10 – 15:5 until the end of the first half,
Macedonian NT coach Raul Gonzales put Kiril Lazarov on the bench together with some other experienced players to save some energy for the next matches with Denmark and Czech Republic, while Spaniards routinely saved a huge goal difference until the end of the match.
Eduardo Gurbindo was TOP scorer in winning team with six goals. Stoilov and Manaskov netted four each for Balkan team.
