“War for March 24” between EHF and DKB Bundesliga

The European Handball Federation and DKB Bundesliga are again in the problem with schedule which already was topic last November when Rhein Neckar Lowen had to play two matches in 24 hours against Leipzig and FC Barcelona Lassa.

Now, problem is linked with TOP 16 matches of German teams – THW Kiel and Rhein Neckar Lowen, and their DKB Bundesliga clash which is scheduled for March 24.

On that weekend, Hungarian PICK Szeged (THW Kiel) and Polish PGE Vive Kielce (Rhein Neckar Lowen) planned to host second matches of the knock-out stage with two German teams.

Both teams, rejected option to host matches on March 21 or March 22 in regard to the number of spectators and the importance for their own sponsors, insist on their right to play their home games at the weekend, which collides with the concurrently scheduled Bundesliga match.

The European Handball Federation (EHF) has therefore called on both Bundesliga clubs to swap the home rights acquired in the group stage by fourth place in the second leg. In this case, with regard to the Bundesliga duel on the weekend, the two German clubs would have to play their home game during the week and renounce the home advantage in the crucial second leg.

Decision of DKB Bundesliga and their members will be known today.
