WCH 2013 TOP 10 MOMENTS: RIVERA’S SPAIN, FANTASTIC CROATIA, NO EXPLOSION OF DANISH DYNAMITE

HANDBALL-PLANET.COM TOP 10 MOMENTS OF THW WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2013:

1.RIVERA’S SPAIN

Valero Rivera has finished fantastic professional cycle with the gold medal in front of domestic public in Barcelona. After outstanding years with F.C Barcelona, Rivera took low motivated Spanish NT in 2010 and made everything that this gold became possible.

2. DANISH DYNAMITE without EXPLOSION in the FINAL

What happened with Danish team in the final? That would be a case study of handball schools in years to come and probably one point of return for Ulrik Wilbek, who will finish international career without World’s gold medal in Men’s handball. Beside that, Danish team was perfect until the final, especially in semi-final against Croatia, when handball world have seen “REAL POWER” with all the stars and new guy – Henrik Moolgard, one of the biggest surprises of the tournament.

3. FANTASTIC CROATIAN TRANSITION

Even without Ivano Balic, Croatia showed great potential in Spain. Until semi-final everything was just like Slavko Goluza wanted. New leader of the team, Domagoj Duvnjak was outstanding in the most of the matches, while some “new” guys as Bicanic, Kopljar, Mandalinic, Stepancic, Sprem and others gave 100% to show that Croatia has “bright future”.

4. “FAST, BRAVE AND FAIR” HANDBALL BY SLOVENIA

Slovenian handball team used opportunity and took a chance to qualify for semi-finals through easier part of the draw. Coach Boris Denic made modern system with all 16 players and some youngstars as Mackovsek and Marguc, who will be the future stars of the European handball. Without TOP shooters, Slovenians played nice handball with lot of nice movements and solutions.

5. FRENCH “THE END”?

It’s always brate to say “that was that”, but now, it is almost clear that one outstanding generation of French handball has to left the golden podium. Without Gilles brothers, maybe Omeyer and Fernandez in future, France won’t be able to repeat results from the last five years…

6. RUSSIA MISSED CHANCE FOR “COME BACK”

Despite good draw and open fight for medal position, Russia missed the chance to beat Slovenia and make real “come-back” to the TOP handball.

7. GERMANS BETTER WITHOUT “STARS”

Martin Heuberger save his “life” with the tournament in Spain. Germany was enough good and young. Fighting spirit was enough to beat weaker, but also stronger rivals. German future exists, despite the key players of TOP teams in Bundesliga aren’t Germans…

8. HUNGARIAN PROBLEM AGAINST “TOP TEAMS”

Hungary has lost three matches and finished tournament in quarterfinal. Clear situation, Spain, Croatia and Denmark are better.

9. POLES STAYED “SAME” WITH NEW COACH

Three months is small period of time for some big changes, but we haven’t seen nothing “new” from Biegler’s Poland in comparation with Bogdan Wenta’s time.

10. SERBS BROKE ILLUSION ABOUT TOP HANDBALL

European vice-champions have lost status of “TOP nation” in Spain, where they finished 10th. “Open road” to semi-finals is lost against Poland and Slovenia, which brought Veselin Vuković on the beginning of his mandate. Serbia also finished 10th at WCH 2011 in Sweden.
