ZAGREB IN SKOPJE: Last dance in old Vardar’s fortress “Kale”

After more than one year period Veselin Vujović, who has as a coach led Vardar to SEHA crown in League’s first season, will return to Skopje, this time in a role of PPD Zagreb’s coach. SEHA GSS League’s derby will, for the last time, be played in Kale sports hall (20:15 CET). Starting from the next week, Vardar will all of their home matches play in new ‘Jane Sandaski’ hall with capacity of over 5,000 seats.

Both team have successful EHF Champions League’s weekends behind them. Vardar was with 26:27 better than Celje and Zagreb has managed to surprise one of Europe’s best teams Kiel and win 27:25. Interesting is also that both teams have one defeat in this SEHA GSS League’s season.

Vardar’s coach Raul Gonzalez has not yet decided which players he will use on this match. He waits for the last training. Only thing that is sure is that Alexey Rastvorcev and Vladimir Petrić will have a seat in the crowd due to their injuries. Zagreb will miss Vuglač and Mandalinić who will both pause for seven more days. Team has arrived to Skopje after three victories in a row – two in regional League and one in CL.

Raul Gonzalez, Vardar’s coach:

– After a win in Celje two days ago in EHF’s Champions League but also a game in which we did not play well we have another tough match on our schedule. At the same time Zagreb has managed to beat Kiel, mostly because of their maginificent 5-1 defence which they are now playing under their new and Vardar’s former coach Veselin Vujović. This is an important match for us in which we want to win and get a step closer to our goal – SEHA GSS League’s Final Four.

Veselin Vujović, PPD Zagreb’s coach:

– This will be an emotional match for me. Vardar’s fans love me and I’m sure we’ll have a great atmosphere in the hall. Vardar has improved and reinforced much in last two seasons but our goal is to win. We have a young team which has made a big thing winning against Kiel on Sunday but we have to remain calm and use this match to improve our form. In my opinion we have 50:50 chances to win the match but I believe in my team and their good performance.
