Camilla Herrem Diagnosed with Breast Cancer – Handball Legend Pauses Career

Shocking news from Norway. One of the greatest left wings of all time, Camilla Herrem, has announced that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer and will not be able to play handball for the foreseeable future.
Her last appearance on the court was on April 2nd in a match between her club Sola and Storhamar, and she received the diagnosis three and a half weeks ago after undergoing an ultrasound and mammogram (a lump was found in her breast).
“On Friday, the hospital called me and said the test results had come in. They asked if we could come,” Herrem shared, adding that the diagnosis was a “complete shock” for her.
“I’m still in shock. It doesn’t feel real. Yesterday I spoke to the oncologist, and he explained how the treatment will go. Tomorrow I’ll begin my first chemotherapy session,” Herrem said.
The legendary Herrem won 11 gold medals with the Norwegian national team and ended her international career on a high, claiming gold at the EHF EURO 2024 alongside head coach Thorir Hergeirsson. She played 332 matches and scored 951 goals for Norway. During her club career, she played for Sola, Vardar, Byasen, and Baia Mare, before returning to Norway in 2017.
