Bundesliga Drama: Minden Relegated, Wetzlar Survive, Lemgo Back in Top 5 After 17 Years

The finale of a thrilling Bundesliga season produced its heroes and heartbreak stories. In the dying seconds, the relegation battle between Minden and Wetzlar was decided after Minden right wing Jakub Sterba hit the post in Leipzig — a miss that left his team without points and ultimately sent them down.

That moment brought tears of joy and huge relief in Wetzlar, where the home team was counting down the final seconds despite a 30:31 defeat against champions SC Magdeburg.

Mathias Gidsel scored 18 goals — finishing the season with 317 and becoming only the third player in Bundesliga history to surpass the 300-goal mark in a single season — as Füchse Berlin defeated SG Flensburg-Handewitt 43:38. The match was also Dejan Milosavljev’s farewell to the German club and the Bundesliga after seven years.

TBV Lemgo Lippe secured a top-five finish for the first time in 17 years with a stunning 34:31 away win against THW Kiel, who will miss out on European competition next season.

Balingen and Bietigheim will join the Bundesliga next season.
