Sagosen out indefinitely with pelvic stress injury

Sander Sagosen will be sidelined for a potentially lengthy period after suffering a stress injury in his pelvis.

The injury occurred during Aalborg Håndbold’s home match against Fredericia HK on September 2, forcing the Norwegian star to play through pain and at reduced capacity.

Aalborg’s medical staff subsequently carried out a series of tests and examinations to determine the extent of the injury, which has now been confirmed.

“It is incredibly frustrating because I had a good pre-season and felt that I had started the season well. We have a long and intense autumn ahead of us, so naturally you want to be part of the squad and contribute,” said Sagosen.

“It is also frustrating that it could take anywhere from six to 14 weeks before I am ready to play again. Fortunately, I am receiving optimal support from our physiotherapist, doctor and physical trainer, and I will do everything in my power to make the break as short as possible.”

The news is also a major setback for Aalborg team manager Martin Larsen, who had hoped to have Sagosen available at full strength during the demanding period ahead.

“As most people know, Sander is a highly skilled and experienced player, but he is also a leader who leads by example both on and off the court. He will therefore be missed in both areas during the coming period,” Larsen said.

“With matches in the domestic league, the Danish Cup and the EHF Champions League, we have a very busy schedule ahead of us. Naturally, we hope that his recovery period will be as short as possible. Sander will also continue to contribute to the squad with his input and presence in our daily work.”

Sagosen has so far made 189 appearances and scored 792 goals for Aalborg Håndbold.
