The Norwegian delegation lodged a protest with the EHF following their semi-final match with Germany on Friday, 29 January 2016.
The Norwegian delegation announced at 9.30 hrs on Saturday morning that they would be withdrawing the protest.
The Norwegian federation released the following statement:
“On 29 January 2016, the Semi Final of the Men’s EHF EURO 2016: Norway (NOR) vs. Germany (GER) took place in the Tauron Arena in Krakow, Poland. The final score is 33:34 in favour of Germany.
After the match, the Norwegian Handball Federation/Delegation submitted a protest against the aforementioned match result. According to the regulation a protest must be submitted within an hour after the end of the relevant match and is to be reasoned for within 9:00 hrs the following day.
The Norwegian Federation/Delegation considered several photos and videos witch clearly show that GER had too many players on the playing field, including 2 goalkeepers and that there was taken no action from the judges table to adjust the situation. Normally this would have given GER a 2-minute suspension, leaving NOR to play 7 players against 5 for five seconds.
The Norwegian Handball Federation is concerned about fair play and that handball matches are to be settled on the playing field.
Despite the given documentation and in the spirit of fair play, the protest is withdrawn. In addition the Norwegian Handball Federation would like to urge participating nations and EHF to use yesterday’s actions to reinforce the set of regulations to prevent similar episodes in the future.”
