Expensive tickets reason for empty seats in Gyor?

One of the negative things linked with the Women’s EHF EURO 2014 in Hungary and Croatia is the number of the fans who support Hungarian teams in new hall – Audi Arena in Gyor, opened only 10 days before the start of the tournament. It was expected that the hall in the city of rich women’s handball tradition would be sold out, but there were a lot of empty seats in the clashes of the host team against Russia and Poland.

Last night, against Polish girls, about 3.000 fans watched the match in the hall with capacity 5.400 seats (with EHF instalations some hundreds less). It looks like that expensive ticket price was a big barrier to a lot of ordinary handball fans to watch the game. For matches in Gyor, tickets start from 30 EUR, and that is three or four times more expensive than in other three cities which host Preliminary Round of the Women’s EHF EURO 2014.

Tickets for preliminary round match days start from 10 euro in Debrecen, 8 euro in Varazdin and 30 euro in Györ. In the fourth group phase venue, Osijek, prices start from as low as 6 euro for a full match day.
