THW Kiel sign Domen Makuc

The reigning DHB Cup winner THW Kiel announced at their season-opening press conference the signing of Slovenian international Domen Makuc, who will join the club in the summer of 2026. The 25-year-old, who can be deployed both at left back and centre back, will move from FC Barcelona to the Förde, signing a four-year contract until June 30, 2030. Makuc is Kiel’s second confirmed new signing for the 2026/27 season after German international Julian Köster.

Szilagyi: “Domen fits into our team of the future”

Viktor Szilagyi, Managing Director of THW Kiel, said:
“We are looking forward to Domen Makuc. He will be the next top-trained Slovenian playmaker in Kiel. Domen’s style of play fits into our team of the future, and that’s why he was our preferred candidate for the backcourt. In addition, he brings a wealth of experience from Barcelona and still has the potential to further develop with us.”

Makuc: “Next big step in my career”

Domen Makuc also expressed his excitement about his future with the German record champions:
“I am currently playing for FC Barcelona, and from next year I will be in Kiel. Both are world-class clubs with great tradition and mutual respect. Moving to THW Kiel will be the next big step in my career. I want to prove myself in the strongest league in the world, and Kiel is the perfect place for that. Not only will I find a top team there, but also a great atmosphere in the Wunderino Arena. Being cheered on by thousands of handball-crazy fans at every home game is something very special.”
