Alilović & Terzić: Eternal Guardians of the EHF Champions League

The victory of the Polish side Wisła Płock in Szeged signaled the high ambitions of the Polish champion, strengthened over the summer with the addition of names like Richardson, Kosorotov, and Bergerud. Whether Wisła is the next “big story” of European handball will be revealed in the months to come, and in the squad of Spanish coach Xavi Sabaté, there are two names who have already fulfilled their dreams of Cologne in the jersey of Hungarian side Veszprém.

“Dinosaurs,” if you take into account that the generation under 20, led by Costa and Míttun, is slowly but surely taking the spotlight—Mirko Alilović and Mirsad Terzić still have their place in the highest-quality handball competition on the planet.

The 40-year-old Croatian goalkeeper from Ljubuški has entered his 23rd season in the EHF Champions League, and after Roland Mikler from Pick Szeged, he is the oldest goalkeeper in the competition, as well as the absolute record-holder when it comes to numbers.

The oldest player is the former Bosnian national team member, born in 1983. Still motivated when it comes to defensive duties, Terzić has started his 21st season in Europe’s handball jet-set.

Impressive careers that intersected in Izviđač Ljubuški, Hungarian Veszprém…
