Gummersbach Beats Barcelona to Sign Swedish Wonderkid Nikola Roganovic

VfL Gummersbach has secured one of the most promising players in European handball, writes Bild.
From the summer of 2026, Swedish international Nikola Roganovic will join the Bundesliga club, signing a contract until 2029.
The 19-year-old currently plays for HK Malmö, coached by his father, former Montenegrian NT coach Zoran Roganovic.
He has already established himself as one of the biggest talents of his generation – at the 2024 U18 European Championship he was named Most Valuable Player, and the following year he was included in the All-Star Team at the U19 World Championship in Egypt.
It is striking that Gummersbach won the race for his signature. Both FC Barcelona and Veszprém were in the running, but in the end the traditional German club came out on top.
Roganovic is right-handed and can cover the middle block in defense, while in attack he can play both as a playmaker and left back. His versatility and breakthrough ability make him an obvious successor to Julian Köster, who will leave Gummersbach in 2026 to join THW Kiel.
The young Swede has already debuted for the senior national team and has been delivering strong performances for Malmö this season. In the European League qualifiers, he scored 13 goals against Sävehof – without a single miss.
