VfL Gummersbach replace Milos Vujovic with Orri Thorkelsson

VfL Gummersbach have confirmed a change on the left wing for next season. Montenegrin international Milos Vujovic will leave the club, while Iceland’s Orri Thorkelsson will arrive from Sporting CP.
The 27-year-old Icelandic international has signed a contract with Gummersbach until 2029.
“With Orri, we are getting a somewhat younger player with Champions League experience from Sporting, whom I obviously know very well as a fellow Icelander,” said Gummersbach head coach Gudjon Valur Sigurdsson.
Thorkelsson has spent the last three seasons with Sporting CP, where he established himself at both domestic and European level.
“I had a wonderful time at Sporting, where I developed a lot both as a person and as an athlete, and together we achieved many great successes,” said Thorkelsson.
“Now I felt that this was the right moment in my career to take the next step forward and embrace a new challenge.”
His arrival also confirms the departure of Milos Vujovic at the end of the season.
“I am very grateful for everything we have experienced together over the years, and especially for the support of the fans. I am looking forward to enjoying this final season together and I will give everything until the very end,” Vujovic said.
Thorkelsson began his career with Haukar Hafnarfjördur before moving to Elverum, where he played from 2021 to 2023. He then joined Sporting CP.
He made his senior debut for Iceland in 2020 and has since become a regular member of the national team, representing his country at the 2025 World Championship and the 2026 European Championship.
