Simon Pytlick to Fuchse Berlin in 2027!

The Danish Olympic champion Simon Pytlick will play for the reigning German champions Füchse Berlin from the 2027/28 season onwards. Coming from SG Flensburg-Handewitt, the right-hander is set to strengthen the Füchse’s backcourt. The next world star has thus opted for the Berlin concept.

World-class handball players paired with young home-grown talent: this was the philosophy that led Füchse Berlin to the German championship last season. Now the next top-class player is finding his way to the capital. Simon Pytlick is joining Füchse Berlin before the end of his contract with SG Flensburg-Handewitt, which runs until 2030. He will play on the Spree from the summer of 2027, his contract is valid until 2030, and he will wear the number 2 jersey. The 24-year-old Dane is right-handed and plays in the backcourt on both the left and in the centre.

At Füchse, Pytlick will also meet some old acquaintances. The 1.92-metre tall player, who was born on the island of Thurø in 2000, played for GOG from 2019 to 2023 before moving to Flensburg. In Denmark at GOG, he played alongside Mathias Gidsel, with whom he later won Olympic gold in Paris in 2024, and was a protégé of coach Nicolej Krickau. Like many other world stars today, Pytlick comes from the GOG youth academy. The Danish model of sustainable talent development is very similar to that of Berlin. Both clubs focus on meticulous youth development, enabling many young players to make the leap into professional sport. These players can then learn from players such as Pytlick.

He already has several titles to his name: with GOG, Pytlick won the Danish championship in 2022 and 2023 and also won the national cup in 2019 and 2022. With Flensburg, he won the EHF European League in 2024 and 2025, and with the Danish national team, for which he scored 259 goals in 57 games, he won Olympic gold as well as two World Championships, in 2023 and 2025. Pytlick has already played 62 times in the DAIKIN Handball Bundesliga. In the current season, he is twelfth in the scoring list with 76 goals and seventh in the league-wide assist list (46 assists).

CEO Bob Hanning: ‘It’s great that a player like Simon Pytlick has joined Füchse Berlin. We believe that, together with Mathias Gidsel, Matthes Langhoff, Tobias Grøndahl and Nils Lichtlein, we have found the right piece of the puzzle for the backcourt.’

Coach and Sports Director Nicolej Krickau: “This is a huge step for us. From my point of view, Simon had no doubts when we first made contact. Simon will fit perfectly into our concept, because we want to play attractive and effective handball. We also have a healthy squad at the moment, so Simon fits in perfectly. This makes it an important commitment in all areas: for Simon, for the Füchse and for the future. This is great news for Füchse Berlin.”

Simon Pytlick: ‘I’m looking forward to playing in Berlin from 2027. I hope that I can be part of an already incredibly good and well-functioning team that can take further steps in the right direction in the future.’
