Kehrmann: “I’m proud – Lemgo finally wins in Berlin”

TBV Lemgo coach Florian Kehrmann’s post-match reaction after win in Berlin:

“I’ve been coach in Lemgo for quite a while now and I’m really happy that today I was able to win here in Berlin for the first time. That makes me really proud, the boys were incredible today.

We had the advantage that we could keep making changes and bring in new impulses. With four backcourt players on the court, we used different opening plays to attack Berlin in various ways. That allowed us to play a very good attacking game. Apart from one phase in the first half, we also managed to prevent Berlin from getting into their fast break, and that was a key factor towards the end.

In the second half we mostly had control of the game. We were usually one or two goals ahead, but in the period between the 40th and 55th minute we didn’t really manage to get a proper grip in defence again. In that phase we had to keep delivering in attack so that Berlin couldn’t come all the way back. Berlin really cranked up the pressure then. At a tied score, a game like this can always tip the other way here against the German champions. Overall, it’s a deserved win, even if games like this can always go in any direction.

We’re very happy to take these two points with us, but we also know it came at a good moment for us. We had a long time to prepare for this match, while Berlin were coming off an intense Champions League game against Veszprém. Still, you first have to put this kind of performance out there on the court, and I’m really very proud of that today.”
