Füchse sign megastar Dika Mem

The German champions are taking a huge step forward in their personnel planning by signing the next global star: Dika Mem will join Füchse Berlin in the summer of 2027. The French international is a multiple EHF Champions League winner with FC Barcelona.

Dika Mem has already collected 52 titles in club handball alone: he has won the EHF Champions League three times, the Club World Championship four times, the Spanish Championship nine times, various Spanish cup competitions 18 times, and the Spanish Super Cup 18 times. The 28-year-old right back is already highly decorated thanks to his time at FC Barcelona and wants to continue this success with the Füchse Berlin. Dika Mem will join the Füchse Berlin from the 2027/2028 season. The world star has signed a contract until 2031 on the Spree, where the jersey with the number “10” awaits him. This number already adorns his jerseys at Barça and in the French national team. Mem has already played 139 times for the reigning European champions, scoring 526 goals.

With „Les Experts“, the 1.96-meter-tall Paris native has already won every major tournament: in Germany, he was crowned European champion in 2024; in 2017, at the age of 19, he won the World Championship on home soil; and in 2021, he won gold at the Olympic Games in Tokyo. His hunger for titles has taken the current Barça captain to the DAIKIN Handball-Bundesliga, “the strongest league in the world”. At the age of 30, it will be a new sporting challenge after he moved from his home country to Catalonia at the age of 19. The left-hander will play with the Füchse for the first time in Germany and is looking forward to the atmospheric arenas, especially, of course, the Max-Schmeling-Halle with its fantastic fans. Alongside Nils Lichtlein and Mathias Gidsel, among others, Berlin’s backcourt gains another world-class player.

Meanwhile, those responsible are not worried about him fitting smoothly into the team structure. In Aitor Ariño, Mem will meet an old acquaintance from Barcelona, and the newcomer’s values also fit perfectly with those of the Füchse. His commitment to promoting young talent is evident in the handball camp he has initiated for children in the U13 and U15 age groups. At the “Dika Days”, Mem himself trains the teenagers and supports them in their development. World class meets young talent – exactly the guiding principle that is also of utmost importance to the German champions.

CEO Bob Hanning: “We are delighted that Dika Mem has chosen us. He had many options and opportunities to choose from. We made every effort to sign him, and the more we got to know him, the more enthusiastic we became and the more we wanted this transfer to happen. At the end of the day, it was a fundamental decision for him: when you prevail against so many world-class clubs, it makes you particularly satisfied. A lot of people have been involved in this transfer over the past few weeks. I’m happy that we’ve now been rewarded with his signing. We need to stay on track, sign top players, and preserve the club’s DNA. That’s why I believe we’ve now brought this to an outstanding conclusion. We had many great conversations with him and look forward to welcoming him in 2027.”

Coach and sports director Nicolej Krickau: “This is fantastic confirmation of the foundation that exists in Berlin. I am really looking forward to working with Dika. My conversations with him and his family have given me the impression that he is extremely hungry to show what he has to offer in the toughest league in the world – playing alongside other top players. With Dika, Gidsel and Lichtlein, we are getting three players who are all used to playing in the backcourt with two left-handers – from France, Barcelona and Berlin. It goes without saying that this is a huge boost for us and that we are gaining a player who brings aspects to the game that we currently lack in our squad. At the same time, he will strengthen our defence. Finally, I am very much looking forward to bringing together the many leadership qualities that will be available to us in the team. It is a big day for the Füchse, and we look forward to welcoming Dika and his family to our club.”

Dika Mem: “I am really looking forward to being part of this team and this club, as the Füchse have made an incredible effort to sign me. I have been in Spain for a long time, and now it feels right to take the step into the Bundesliga. Berlin has been a very impressive club in recent years, and I want to be part of it. I want to help develop the club further and win as many titles as possible. I’m looking forward to the great fans at Füchse. I played in Berlin once, which was a lot of fun. Friends like Aitor Ariño and Lasse Andersson have also spoken highly of the club. This opportunity to play with this group feels like the right choice for me. This group will be special, and we want to achieve something special with it.”
