Siewert to succeed Parrondo at Melsungen

Jaron Siewert will replace Roberto Garcia Parrondo as head coach of MT Melsungen.

From the 2027/28 season, Jaron Siewert will take over as head coach of MT Melsungen. The 32-year-old has signed a contract with the North Hesse club until the summer of 2030, the Handball Bundesliga side announced on Monday, June 8.

Parrondo to leave MT in 2027

MT have reacted to the decision of current coach Roberto Garcia Parrondo, who informed the club in February that he wants to take “the next step in his career” after his contract expires and move to an international top club. Parrondo’s contract with MT runs until the end of the 2026/27 season. He has been linked with Paris Saint-Germain.

Under the Spanish tactician, Melsungen enjoyed the greatest success in the club’s history last season by winning the EHF European League — the first title in the history of the club.

“We respect Roberto’s decision and are also proud that a coach from MT has attracted the interest of an international top club,” said Melsungen sporting director Jesper Larsson.

“We want to develop young players. That also includes international talents whom we want to identify at an early stage,” Larsson explained. “In this respect, Jaron fits us perfectly. He has shown that he can promote, challenge and integrate young players into a Bundesliga team.”

Larsson also emphasized that Siewert knows how to work with established professionals and has the necessary instinct to find the right mix for a successful team.

Siewert is looking forward to his new role with great confidence. He described MT as an ambitious club with high goals.

“The task is extremely appealing to me. I want to do my part in implementing and shaping the new strategy,” said Siewert, adding that he wants to celebrate success with Melsungen. The club’s trophy cabinet should not remain at just one title.

When Siewert starts at MT

The Berlin-born coach is also fully fit again. Last autumn, Siewert suffered another stroke, but he says he is now doing well.

“I’m fine and I can hardly wait to finally get back to work.”

Siewert will begin working with MT next season, initially in an advisory role in the areas of scouting, squad planning from the 2027/28 season, youth development and cooperation projects.
