Blaz Janc to stay at Barça until 2030

Slovenian handball player Blaz Janc has extended his contract with FC Barcelona for another two years and will remain at the club until 30 June 2030.

The agreement between Barça and the versatile left-handed player means Janc will continue his successful spell with the Catalan giants. His previous contract was due to expire in the summer of 2028.

Janc joined Barcelona in 2020 and is now set to spend a full decade at the club. Over the years, he has become an increasingly important part of Carlos Ortega’s team. This season, he was used both as a right wing and as a back, while he has also occasionally played in the first line.

The Slovenian is known for his winning mentality and versatility. He can also contribute defensively, as he is capable of playing in the first, second and advanced defensive positions.

Janc ended the season with a memorable performance at the EHF Champions League Final Four, scoring six goals and adding five assists in the final against Füchse Berlin. However, his impact was not limited to the final, as he was one of the standout players in Barcelona’s historic perfect season, in which Ortega’s side won all seven trophies.

The 29-year-old Slovenian has already built an impressive trophy collection in the Barça jersey. Since joining the club, Janc has won four EHF Champions League titles, six Liga ASOBAL titles and six Copa del Rey trophies. This season, he also won his first IHF Men’s Club World Championship.

After signing the new contract at the Llotja del Palau, in the presence of director Joan Solé, Janc said he was extremely proud and happy to continue at Barça.

“I would never have imagined playing so many years for the best club in the world. Every player dreams of wearing this jersey, and even more so of doing it for such a long time. I feel at home. I won my first Champions League here, my children were born here… It is more than a club,” Janc told Barça Media.

Despite coming off a perfect season, Janc is already focused on the future.

“We will keep fighting to win more trophies and I am sure we can do it with this team. We have to stay hungry for trophies and I am sure we will continue that way,” he said.
