Barca extend Antonio Carlos Ortega until 2031!
Antonio Carlos Ortega will remain on the FC Barcelona bench until June 30, 2031.
The Catalan giants have officially announced a new long-term agreement with the 55-year-old Spanish coach, whose previous contract was set to expire at the end of the current season.
If Ortega completes the new deal, he will spend a full decade as Barca head coach, having taken over the team in the summer of 2021.
The results fully justify the club’s confidence in him.
During his five seasons in charge, Ortega has led Barcelona to three EHF Champions League titles – in 2022, 2024 and 2026 – while reaching the EHF FINAL4 in Cologne every season.
Under his leadership, Barca also won the 2025 IHF Club World Championship, as well as all major domestic trophies available, including five Liga ASOBAL titles, five Copa del Rey trophies and five Iberian Super Cups.
The 2025/26 season was particularly impressive, with Barcelona winning all seven competitions they entered.
“I am at the best club in the world and I couldn’t be better anywhere else. I am very grateful to the club and the president for the confidence they have shown in me from the very beginning. My family and I are very happy about this renewal and about staying here for many more years,” said Ortega.
The Malaga-born coach already holds a special place in the club’s history.
As a player, Ortega wore the Barcelona jersey from 1994 to 2005 and won six European titles. With another three Champions League trophies as a coach, he now has nine European crowns with Barca as a player and coach combined.
Barcelona have made their long-term choice clear: Carlos Ortega is the man to lead the project until 2031.
