Maja Savic takes over ZRK Buducnost as Abramovic leaves
Montenegrin champions OTP Group Buducnost have announced that Zoran Abramovic has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the first team, with club legend Maja Savic appointed as his successor.
Abramovic had been in charge of Buducnost since September last year, leading the team throughout the previous season and at the beginning of the current campaign, including their matches in the EHF Champions League.
The decision to make a change on the bench came after the opening two rounds of the EHF Champions League group phase, in which Buducnost suffered defeats against FTC in Podgorica and CSM Bucuresti in the Romanian capital.
The first team will now be entrusted to Maja Savic, one of the greatest legends in the history of the club and Montenegrin women’s handball.
Savic first joined Buducnost as a player in 1990 and spent 14 years with the Podgorica-based club, until 2004. She returned for the 2011/12 season and ended her playing career in the best possible way by winning the EHF Champions League.
Following her retirement, Savic returned to Buducnost in August 2021, this time as a member of the coaching staff and assistant coach. She served in the coaching teams of the club’s previous two head coaches, Bojana Popovic and Zoran Abramovic.
The club highlighted her experience, authority, knowledge of Buducnost and European handball, as well as her long-standing work with the players, as important assets for the new period.
Savic will make her debut as Buducnost head coach on Sunday, when the “Blues” host French side Brest in Round 3 of the EHF Champions League.
Changes in the club management
At the same time, Goran Cmiljanic has resigned from his position as director of ZRK OTP Group Buducnost.
The club’s Board of Directors has appointed current club secretary Srdjan Markoc as the new director.
Markoc has already been involved in the club’s organisational and administrative processes and takes over the new role with the aim of maintaining stability and responsible management, while focusing on sporting ambitions, player development and Buducnost’s position on the European handball scene.
ZRK OTP Group Buducnost thanked Zoran Abramovic and Goran Cmiljanic for their work, professionalism and contribution to the club and wished them success in the next stages of their careers.
