Dagur Sigurdsson with Croatia: “Challenge, adventure, passion…”

Dagur Sigurdsson was promoted to the new coach of the Croatian national team on Thursday.

The first foreigner in the history of Croatian handball was presented at a press conference in Zagreb. His first assistant will be Denis Špoljarić, who worked with the Icelander while playing for Fuchse Berlin. The former coach of Austria, Germany and Japan explained his reasons for accepting the challenge in the Balkans as follows:

“I was looking for a challenge and an adventure, something with passion. Everything came together. This is a big challenge for me. I’m looking forward to it. We have two challenging weeks ahead of us with a lot of work. I watched Croatia at the Euros. There are a lot of young but experienced players. The challenge is to find a balance between them. I am ambitious and enthusiastic. We have a lot of work to do, but I think I will do a good job,” said Sigurdsson, who is soon waiting for the Olympic qualifications where Croatia is seeking one of the two tickets in competition with Germany, Austria and Algeria.
