Denmark’s 13th major final — chasing the “treble” again

Denmark are back on the biggest stage: the final of Men’s EHF EURO 2026 in Herning against Germany (18:00). It’s not just final number 13 across EURO/WCH/Olympics — it’s also a shot at a rare major treble: holding Olympic + World + European titles at the same time.

Denmark already carry the Olympic crown from 2024 Summer Olympics and the world title from 2025 World Men’s Handball Championship. If they win the EURO on Sunday, they complete that set — something France famously achieved before, becoming the reigning champions of all three major competitions at once.

Why the “treble” talk matters

Completing the Olympics–Worlds–EURO set would confirm Denmark’s era as one that doesn’t merely win tournaments — it controls cycles. And because France have already shown how hard it is to hold all three crowns at once, Denmark know exactly what they’re chasing: something historic, rare, and brutally difficult.

One more win and the “big final” count turns into a historic statement: EURO champions added to Olympic and world titles, completing the treble and putting Denmark in the same rare sentence as France. But finals don’t reward resumes — they reward the team that handles the next 60 minutes better. On Sunday, Denmark can either leave happy with a trophy and a place in history, or be left with the harsh truth that even dynasties have to earn it again, every single time.
