EHF EURO 2026 Final TV boom in Germany

The EHF EURO 2026 final, in which Denmark beat Germany 34:27, drew huge attention across the European handball community and the wider sports public in the finalist nations.

As many as 12.82 million viewers in Germany watched the match in which the national team fought for its first gold since 2016. The viewing share (50.8%) shows that every second TV viewer was tuned in. The pre-game show alone already attracted 7.2 million viewers (47.3% share). At half-time, it ranked third in the day’s ratings, behind ZDF heute (11.8 million, 47.3%).

“The EURO final was like a campfire around which German TV viewers gathered — handball thrilled and inspired. A viewing share of over 50 percent is outstanding and a milestone. What our national handball team has done over the past weeks in tandem with ARD and ZDF is worth its weight in gold,” said Mark Schober, Secretary General of the DH
