The long road to the EHF VELUX F4 started in September with the tournaments classification.
At the end of September eight big groups, began to play in order to find Europe’s top 16 teams, that went through to the L16..
Group B it was called group of death, and for me the fisrt surprise it was that Chekhovskie Medvedi were eliminated already in the group stage.
The real Champions League battle started in L16 phase , with three incredible matches on the programme.
Barca got a hard match-up against Montpellier Agglomeration, and they (Barca) had to work very hard to pass Montpellier, and advance further.
Ademar León-MKB Veszprem, where León surprised Veszprem in the last seconds of the match.
Füchse Berlin-HSV Hamburg, where one of the biggest surprises occurred this round, with the then-current German champion HSV Hamburg is knocked out by the Berlin side, led by the magnificent Sigurdsson.
In Quarter final there were two surprises, the elimination of Barca shows that the road to the semi-finals is not an easy one, and in the memory will be the incredible comeback in Berlin against my friends of León, where Fuchse Berlin managed to overcome a 11 goals defeat in Spain.
I have to talk about two teams in this Champions league:
Atlético de Madrid: I love their model of gameplay, guided by Dushebayev.
Kiel: I love the physical level at which they play all their games.
There were many brilliant players this season in the Champions League of course, but if I must choose one, it shall be Mikkel Hansen one of five players that are most unbalancing in our handball planet.
