Fabian Wiede to miss World Cup in Egypt

Fabian Wiede will not play at World Cup in Egypt (January 13th to 31st). The left-hander from Füchse Berlin has only recently been back on the field after shoulder surgery and, after the injured Tim Suton and Franz Semper and Patrick Wiencek’s cancellation, is the fourth player from the 35-man squad who is not available to national coach Alfred Gislason.

“I am always proud to play for Germany and would have loved to play the World Cup because I believe in the possibilities of our national team. I am very sorry that I have to cancel Alfred, but my shoulder does not allow the constant strain again” says Fabian Wiede.

Bob Hanning, Managing Director of Füchse Berlin and Vice President of the DHB, not only shows understanding for the decision, he emphasizes: “Fabi has been active for all German national teams for over ten years. The decision to listen to his body now is for his career inevitable. ”

In view of the injuries suffered by Franz Semper and Tim Suton and the resignation of Patrick Wiencek and Fabian Wiede, there are currently only 31 names left from Alfred Gislason’s 35-man squad. National coach Gislason is currently planning to nominate the squad with which the German national team will begin their preparation, which is expected to begin on January 3rd, on December 21st. For the first time, the DHB team will be able to enter the World Cup with 20 instead of 16 players.
