Heiner Brand, the former national coach of Germany and one of the most successfull coaches in handball history, was very sharp when criticizing THW Kiel. “For ten years, THW haven’t had a national team player. They are the most successful German handball team, without doing anything for German Handball, and I don’t see that anything will change”.
Brand is now in charge of the Youth Development section for the DHB (the Federation). He notes that for years now the German youths are winning lots of tournaments, but that does not happen with the seniors, and that the clubs must more intensively occupy themself with the younger players and their development.
On the new season in the Bundesliga, Brand sees THW as a favorite and warns of the “danger that THW might dominate the Bundesliga again”.
