Only a few days after top match against MKB Veszprém, Pick Szeged had to face Orosháza who are trying to flee from relegation. It was difficult for the players to ‘get in the mood’ after losing on wednesday.
The home team (among others) consisted of talented right wing from Szeged, Ákos Balda an the best Pick Szeged left back of the last 50 years, living legend Sándor Bajusz, who is near the end of his active career. Pick’s job was also made difficult by the fact that Hungarian international right-back Gábor Ancsin was unable to play due to injury.
As expected the highly motivated home team cheered by their enthusiastic supporters started the match at a fast pace, while Szeged players seemed tired and were unable to find the right rhythm. Pick made far too many mistakes in defence which is why the match was a draw at half-time (16-16). The home team lead by 1-2 goals even in the 40th minute. After that Pick switched to higher gear and immediately took the initiative and the difference began to grow. The match ended 31-35. The local team’s coach was satisfied with his team’s performance and the best scorer of the match Ákos Balda. In Pick less-frequently used players had the chance to prove themselves.
Best scorers: Balda (8), Dukic, Mazic (6-6) / Balogh, Pribanic (7-7), Larholm (6)
