Hungary: Pick Szeged shows power against Balatonfüred

The last away match of the regular season for Pick Szeged took place in Balatonfüred who are at the middle of the Hungarian League table. Fans have nicknamed this team ‘small Veszprém’  since they have very good connections with MKB and several former Veszprém players (Szatmári, goalkeeper coach of the national team, Ákos Kis, István Pásztor) are now in Balatonfüred. Their coach is former Veszprém left-back László Sótonyi.

Pick Szeged had to be careful as they only managed to win by 1 goal last season while two years ago they were defeated in Balatonfüred. That is why the guests started the match at a fast pace and quickly gained a comfortable lead (11th minute 2-8), which they were able to keep until the end of the first half, thanks to great goals from Balogh (12-18). Szeged dominated the second half too, almost every player scored, defence was tight and Larholm scored from every penalty (6/6), so the match ended in a very confident victory for Pick Szeged (23-36).

Pick Szeged will conclude the regular season on home ground against fourth-placed Tatabánya on Sunday and will start preparing for the play-off thereafter.

Best scorers: Zdolik 10(4) / Larholm 8(6), Balogh 7, Sulc 5
