IHF give Olympic qualifications tournament 2024 hosting rights

The IHF Council has decided to award the hosting rights to the National Federations of Hungary, Spain and Germany, as their bids proved to be fulfilling all the logistical requests, announced IHF.

The Olympic Qualification Tournament 1 will now take place in Debrecen, Hungary, a venue which has also used at the 2018 IHF Women’s Junior World Championship.

As Sweden finished fourth at the IHF Women’s World Championship, they were allocated to the 2024 Olympic Qualification Tournament 1, where they will face the 10th place at the 2023 IHF Women’s World Championship, Hungary, the second-placed side in the African Olympic Qualification Tournament, Cameroon, and the second-placed side in the Asian Olympic Qualification Tournament, Japan.

In the 2024 Olympic Qualification Tournament 2, the teams ranked fifth and eighth at Denmark/Norway/Sweden 2023, Netherlands and Czechia, will face the second-placed side at the Pan American Games, Argentina, and Spain, one of the teams qualifying via the EHF EURO 2022. Only Spain applied to host the tournament, which will now take place in Torrevieja, a venue recently used for the 2021 IHF Women’s World Championship.

The 2024 Olympic Qualification Tournament 3 will see Germany and Montenegro, ranked sixth and seventh, face Slovenia, which secured their place via the EHF EURO 2022, and Paraguay, the third-placed side at the Pan American Games, Paraguay. Germany have applied to host the tournament, which will take place in Neu-Ulm.

The top two sides in each Olympic Qualification Tournament will join France, Norway, Denmark, Angola, Brazil and the Republic of Korea, the six teams which are already qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
