Attended by a big number of media representatives and officials of Qatar Handball Association and International Handball Federation the draw for the 2013 edition of the IHF Super Globe in Doha (Qatar) took place in Sarajevo on Saturday evening 27 July on the fringes of the Men’s Junior World Championship. Conducted by Leon Kalin (Chairman of the IHF COC Commission) and Mohamed Gaber al Mulla (Secretary General of the Qatar Handball Association) the groups of the preliminary round had been drawn.
In group A European Champions League winner HSV Hamburg (Germany) faces tournament host Al-Sadd (Qatar), El-Jeish (Qatar, wild card team) and Sydney University (Australia, Oceania representative). Al-Sadd as the organizer had the right to choose their group and decided for Group A.
In group B FC Barcelona (Spain, replacement for defending champion Atletico Madrid) plays against Etoile Sportive du Sahel (Tunisia, winner of the African continental club competition), Al-Rayyan (Qatar, Asian club champion) and Taubate (Brazil (Pan-American club champion).
The preliminary round will be played in two groups from 25-27 August, followed by semi-finals and placement matches, the final takes place on 30 August, all matches will be played in Al-Gharafa hall in Doha.
“Both groups are very interesting with top teams. I hope that the clubs from Qatar can reach good result against the international concurrence,” said Mohamed Gaber al Mulla, and added: “We heartily welcome all teams to Doha and we will arrange everything for them so that the teams and players can enjoy the fourth edition of the IHF Super Globe in Doha.”
