Juan Carlos Pastor to lead TSV Hannover Burgdorf

Juan Carlos Pastor will take over on the bench of German side TSV Hannover Burgdorf.

The Bundesliga club and EHF European League participant will part ways with Christian Prokop at the end of the season — the former head coach of the German national team — and welcome the experienced Spaniard, who won World Championship gold with Spain at the 2005 tournament in Tunisia and previously coached Valladolid as well as Pick Szeged (2013–2023). His most recent job was as head coach of Egypt’s national team.

Pastor has signed a two-season contract, running until the summer of 2028.

“We are delighted to welcome Pastor, an internationally recognised coach, to our club. He will bring fresh impulses to the team and the organisation in the new season. Thanks to his vast experience at the very highest level, he knows exactly how to develop teams from a chasing position and how to help players reach world-class level,” sporting director Sven-Sören Christophersen said with a view to the coming seasons.

“From the moment the opportunity arose to come to Hannover, I felt it was the right place to continue my career. There was no doubt, because the club’s stable sporting project, its security, and its clear ambition for further growth convinced me. I see a team with great potential, committed players, and a fan base that lives handball with a special passion. I am very grateful for the trust the club’s leadership has placed in me and I hope to repay it in the period ahead. We share the same values: hard work, discipline, fighting spirit, and a clear idea of the path we want to take,” Pastor said.

Hannover have already had experience with Spanish coaches: Antonio Carlos Ortega was in charge from 2017 to 2021.
