Knudsen and Rasmussen face their former team mates

In 2014, Michael V. Knudsen and Søren Rasmussen won the VELUX EHF Champions League with SG Flensburg-Handewitt. On Sunday, the two Danes face their former teammates, when Bjerringbro-Silkeborg play Flensburg-Handewitt in the second round of the VELUX EHF Champions League.

It is no match like everyone else for Michael V. Knudsen and Søren Rasmussen, two players in squad of the Danish Champions of Bjerringbro-Silkeborg. For nine years, Michael V. Knudsen wore the shirt of Flensburg-Handewitt, while Søren Rasmussen played at home in Flens Arena for four years. In 2014, both of them moved to Denmark and to Bjerringbro-Silkeborg, and on Sunday, they welcome their former teammates, when SG Flensburg-Handewitt visit Bjerringbro-Silkeborg.

– I thought, I had played my last game in the VELUX EHF Champions League, when I moved back home to Denmark. To play against Flensburg with my Danish club will be something huge for me, said Michael V. Knudsen.

Both Knudsen and Søren Rasmussen ended their career in Flensburg-Handewitt with archiving one of the most prestigious goals in international handball, winning the VELUX EHF Champions League.

– Flensburg-Handewitt has been very important for my handball career. I had four great years in Flensburg, where we won many great games. The crown was of cause winning the VELUX EHF Champions League, which I consider the biggest achievement in my career, Søren Rasmussen told.

It is two teams in great shape, who face each other on Sunday. Bjerringbro-Silkeborg and SG Flensburg-Handewitt are both unbeaten in the current season, and while Flensburg-Handewitt opened their VELUX EHF Champions League campaign with a draw at home against Veszprem, Bjerringbro-Silkeborg did a smaller upset by capturing the win in Schaffhausen. The German top team of Flensburg-Handewitt is of cause the favourites in Sunday’s encounter, but Knudsen and Rasmussen hope of another upset from the Danish Champions.

– Flensburg-Handewitt is a really great team and in my opinion they are the favourites to win the German Bundesliga this season. Everything needs to work out perfectly for us, but if we all play our best, I think we have a chance, said the 40-year-old goalkeeper Rasmussen.

– We must make no mistakes. We have to be really good in our defence and ourgoalkeeper must have a great day. In our attack, we must do our best and make no mistakes. Flensburg is able to destroy their opponent on their counter attacks, told line player Knudsen about Bjerringbro-Silkeborg’s game plan.

The game between Bjerringbro-Silkeborg and SG Flensburg-Handewitt will be played in Aarhus due to the high interest of the public. Among 4.000 spectators will watch the Danish Champions against the North Germans with the two Danish Olympic gold medallists Lasse Svan and Henrik Toft Hansen, when the game throws of at 16.50 on Sunday afternoon. The game will be broadcasted live on DR1 Denmark, SKY Germany and on EHFTV.com.
