Kolstad to meet Veszprem in 2.500 seats hall due financial troubles

Norwegian champion Kolstad IL has been allowed to move the Champions League match against Hungarian Veszprem from Trondheim Spektrum to Kolstad Arena.

The decision comes after financial problems, with recent home games resulting in large deficits.

“We are dependent on a sustainable matchday economy. We think the risk is too great when we have to have 6,000 spectators in Trondheim Spektrum to make a profit,” says general manager Jostein Sivertsen to Adresseavisen.

Kolstad has previously moved a match due to the Ski World Championships, but this time it’s about finances. “When we’re bleeding money on the matches in Trondheim Spektrum, we have to make a move,” says Sivertsen.

The EHF has accepted the club’s request, but has made it clear that the move will only apply this one time.

“The EHF wants us to play in Trondheim Spektrum, but we should be allowed to move this time. They have indicated that this is not something they want, but they understand the challenge and that we are in a demanding situation,” says Sivertsen.

The match against Veszprem will be played on Wednesday, November 12th in Kolstad Arena, which holds 2.500 spectators.
