Danish star Mathias Gidsel continues to amaze the handball world. The brilliant right back has once again been named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player at EHF EURO 2026 — the fifth MVP award of his career, after earning two at the Olympic Games and two at the World Championships.

And that’s not the only milestone that will define the 27-year-old Dane’s legacy. The left-hander from Füchse Berlin is the only handball player in the history of the sport to be selected for the All-Star Team at eight consecutive major tournaments.

That feat had previously been matched only once on a smaller scale: Croatian legend Ivano Balić managed it at six tournaments, from Athens 2004 to Beijing 2008.
