Montpellier without EHF CL after 12 years, Omeyer: Too many mistakes decided!

The third team of the French Championship 2012/2013, Montpellier Agglomerate won’t play at the VELUX EHF Champions League after 12 years! Over a decade of domination in the French handball, but very good results on European level, came to the end finally on Sunday, when Polish runners-up, Orlen Wisla Plock beat Montpellier 28:23 in the second match of qualification for the EHF Champions League, what was enough after only two-goals defeat in the first match – 27:29.

Despite Paris Saint German made strong team in summer 2012,the real trouble for Montpellier began with the betting scandal – one of the biggest “black stories” in the history of handball. Team decided to terminate contract with some players, among them Karabatic brothers which caused the weaker results in the rest of the season. The most succesful team in the history of French handball – EHF CL winner from 2013, at the end finished third at LNH and had to play qualification for EHF CL, but without positive ending:

– That was a good battle between two strong teams. In our game, however, was to many mistakes, especially in the last 10 minutes of the match. Wisla played smarter and that was a reason of their success – said Thierry Omeyer after defeat.

Legendary “TITI” won’t play at EHF Champions League after 12 fantastic years with Montpellier, but mostly with THW Kiel. He won the best club’s handball competition four times!

Montpellier is not the same team any more. They didnt play very good in any of the games. They simply lost to many good players lately. They are now just an ordinary team.
