MT Melsungen and Michael Allendorf part ways
MT Melsungen and sporting director Michael Allendorf have parted company with immediate effect. The Bundesliga club announced that the decision was made in agreement with the supervisory board and attributed to personal reasons. Until further notice, his responsibilities will be assumed by the remaining board members and administrative staff.
Allendorf, a former MT captain and long-time left wing, had transitioned into management in 2021, shaping the club’s sporting direction over the past four years. The supervisory board thanked him for his dedication:
“Michael Allendorf has shaped MT Melsungen over many years with great commitment, expertise and unwavering loyalty. We extend our heartfelt thanks for his extraordinary contributions and our sincerest wishes for his professional and personal future.”
Head coach Roberto García Parrondo, who has worked closely with Allendorf since 2021, was surprised by the timing:
“This is something we did not expect. The club informed us shortly before the Stuttgart game that the cooperation had ended. We were told there were no sporting reasons behind the decision,” Parrondo said.
Despite the unexpected development, Parrondo emphasized professionalism and focus within the squad:
“Of course there were moments when we had different opinions, but we worked well together and personally had no problems. After the information, we concentrated on the match, because it was very important for us. Now our task is to keep working hard and play good handball.”
The sudden change leaves open questions regarding MT Melsungen’s long-term sporting strategy, but the club insists its ambitions in the Bundesliga remain unchanged.
