Niklas Landin will be out for 2 months

Niklas Landin will be out for a while, stated from Aalborg Handbold.

“The goalkeeper will have to undergo surgery on one knee in the coming time, after which he will be out of action for approximately two months. As most people know, 35-year-old Niklas Landin helped win gold with the Danish national team at the Olympic Games in Paris in the summer. Subsequently, the goalkeeper returned to Aalborg Handball with what was assessed to be a minor injury to one knee, which is why this was initially treated with a blockade. It has since turned out that the extent of the damage was greater than first thought, which is why it is now clear that an operation is necessary to repair the damaged knee.

The operation will be carried out later this month, after which Landin will have a rehabilitation period of 6-8 weeks before he will be able to pull on the match shirt for Aalborg Handball again.

– It should be no secret that it is of course a line in the bill for us to have to do without Niklas for an extended period. Having said that, we have a perfectly good replacement in Fabian Norsten, who has shown a high top level several times and has also started the new season with several great performances, says Aalborg Handball’s director Jan Larsen.

– Someone may wonder that Niklas played most of the second half in Saturday’s victory over Ribe-Esbjerg and the fact is that with the injury he would be able to play a game for us every now and then. However, it is not a viable solution for either us or Niklas, who we need to have at top level and available for all matches. That is why we also completely agree that an operation as soon as possible is the only way out in the current situation, says Jan Larsen further.

– Of course, the timing is unfortunate when we have just started a new season in the Men’s League and have several big challenges ahead of us in the Champions League. However, there is never a good time to be injured, so although I regret having to sit out for the time to come, I am sure that I will come back strong, and in the interim period I will do everything to support my teammates from the sidelines and in training, says Niklas Landin.

Aalborg Handball will meet the French vice-champions from HBC Nantes tonight at home in the first round of the season’s group stage in the Machineseeker EHF Champions League. Here, the goalkeeper duo will consist of Fabian Norsten and U/19 goalkeeper Tobias Bugge.
