Paulo Jorge Pereira overtakes CS Dinamo Bucharest

The Portuguese national handball team coach, Paulo Jorge Pereira, will take charge of Romanian champions Dinamo Bucharest for the 2025/26 season, as revealed by Pereira himself during a conference held in Braga.

Still currently coaching RK Celje, with whom he is contesting the third-place playoff in Slovenia’s top division, the 60-year-old coach announced his decision via video conference during the event “High Performance in Demanding Environments,” held at the Braga campus of the University of Minho.

By joining Dinamo Bucharest—a team that has dominated Romanian handball since the 2015/16 season and will compete in next season’s EHF Champions League—Paulo Jorge Pereira returns to a country where he previously worked from 2017 to 2019, when he coached CSM Bucharest.

At the helm of Portugal’s men’s national team since 2016, Pereira led the team to a historic fourth-place finish at the 2025 World Championship, Portugal’s best-ever result at a major international tournament. His career as a head coach dates back to 2002.

Over the years, he has coached FC Porto, CB Cangas in Spain, ASA and Primeiro de Agosto in Angola, Espérance de Tunis in Tunisia, and RK Celje, where he will wrap up the current season on Sunday in the second match against Trimo Trebnje, following a 34–32 win on Wednesday.
