SC Magdeburg and Gisli Kristjansson together until 2030!

SC Magdeburg is setting the next personnel course for the future. The Champions League winners have extended the contract of Gisli Kristjansson early, keeping him at the club until June 30, 2030.

The Icelandic national team player moved from THW Kiel to the Elbe in 2020 and has since developed into one of the most sought-after and successful backcourt players in the world. With SCM, the 26-year-old has so far won the EHF European League, three IHF Super Globes, as well as two German championships and two EHF Champions League titles.

Unforgettable is his performance in the Champions League final in the 2022/23 season, when, despite a shoulder dislocation, he played for the title with Magdeburg, not only winning it but also being named the MVP of the Final4.

Head coach Bennet Wiegert:
“Gisli is a player whose commitment and passion embody everything SC Magdeburg stands for. What he invests every day, what he delivers on the court, and how he constantly pushes his limits and beyond makes him an exceptional player. Gisli is incredibly important to our team both sportingly and personally, and I am extremely happy that we were able to extend his contract.”

Gisli Kristjansson:
“The way people in Magdeburg live and celebrate handball, the mentality here, the atmosphere in the arena – I like all of that very much. You feel it every day in the city and in the club. The way we as a team have developed in recent years is remarkable. We always want more. I’m looking forward to continuing this journey with SCM.”
